Happy Valentine's

I won’t be getting a card this year;
Not chocolates, a poem or flowers, I fear;
But I still can’t shake the excitement in my head
And nothing will stop me from wearing my red.
No romantic note, anonymous or not;
No one calling on 15th because they forgot;
Not much to swoon or brag about;
I’ll still don my crimson and go out.
All the radio shows I can’t call in
The dinners for two I can’t possibly win.
There’ll be no romantic getaway
But I’ll still celebrate Valentine’s Day.

A love story unfolds each day I grow
Without cupid’s arrow or bow.
It’s why I don’t need a sweet boyfriend
Or a caring husband to understand:
Val’s Day’s mine as much as any couple’s
It’s Jesus’ love makes each day special.
His blood writes the dearest poem I know;
His love is chocolate to my soul
His mercy is a song each morn I wake;
His Grace the perfume that never fades.

All the years I’ve wasted that have gone;
Needing a lover to feel loved upon.
Preposterous the way I’ve failed to see
The greatest love there ever could be.
Bouquets are nice; but I get them free
On almost every shrub and tree.
Romance and candles set a mood
But steady love does me more good.
Above one day of chivalry,
I’d pick a Man who’d die for me;
To woo me all my days of life,
Not wine and dine me for a night.
I love the sweet wind of romance
But can’t wait one day a year to dance.

So now…
Every day is a divine, romantic date;
Val’s Day is one of the many I’ll celebrate
Love in the purest, truest way:
Cause Valentine’s reminds me of Good Friday.
