SEEKING GOD
I sought God on earth So I went to the flowers To whom sunshine gave birth; To petals, with an array of colours. I sought God on land So I went to the beach To see the creatures in the sand, And wonder Who gave shells to each. I sought God in water So I went to the fish Whose graceful, floating saunter Is every man’s wish. I sought God in flowing rivers So I went to a brook And saw water reflecting light in shimmers, Till all my breath it took. I sought God in the heavens So I looked above And I was taught by the ravens The beauty of motherly love. I sought God in the sky So I went to the birds And they taught me to fly, Singing a song that never ends. I sought God in nature So I looked everywhere. In each and every feature, I saw God there. I sought God, and I found The sobering discovery that: In all my looking round, I forgot to seek Him in my heart.
